HOW TO RAISE YOUR TOTAL SCORE
Your total score is made up of a number of things; Total population, The level of buildings. the research you have completed. trade ships. and military.
Total Population: This is one of the most important parts of growing your score. Check your tow hall and make sure that your population is growing. You receive 1 point for every citizen you have. Make sure your citizens are happy by providing them wine cultural treaties and not allowing corruption.
Buildings: Every building you build or upgrade has a point value based on the amount of resources used to build that building. The higher the level of the building you build the more points you get. All points are added when the building is complete.
Research: There are points given when research is complete. The further along you are in research the more points you receive.
Trade ships: Trade ships are instant points. You receive points based on the cost of the ship. Now the points are 1 point to every 400 gold used.
Military: Your military score also adds to your total score. Your points again are calculated by the amount of resources required to build each unit.
With those things in mind the key to rapid growth is build, build build.
Keep your buildings growing. check 2X a day to make sure you are building something. remember there are some buildings you may not need come 3.0 so don't build those, but if you can keep buildings growing then your points are always growing. GRs (governor's Residences), Town Halls, and Walls are the biggest additions to points as they cost more.
Expand. Always save for expansion. If you have more colonies you have more towns growing in population, more buildings being built at the same time, more research being done and more income from your citizens. Make sure that you bring up your GR's to avoid corruption. 20% corruption from a large town can negate any benefit of another small colony. I always build buildings and then send extra goods to one colony until I can build my GR. I have all my GRs up before I expand.
Pillaging in-actives is what gives us the added money and and resources we need to grow. Pillage as often as possible, then use those goods quickly. The more you pillage the faster you grow. Don't let your gold get too high. Buy trade ships for instant points or buy resources you need to build your buildings. Make sure if you have a good pillage to pillage them 6x in 24 hours. If you get 1000 marble a pillage then that saves hours on your island.
Research is only added when the research is complete. work on the research that takes the least time first unless you need something. If you research the quickest thing and build academies as you go to provide more scientist, then your larger researches will come faster.
Build your military to your defensive and offensive needs but I wouldn't base my growth on your military as you can loose those points at any time.
Your score is made up of a combination of your buildings, research, population, military, and trade ships
Buildings are the primary way we build our score. Every time we use resources on a building we are making points. The larger the buildings the more points they are worth. High level Town Halls and Town Walls are worth quite a few points, while buildings like workshop or the new buildings are worth less. The key is to build something all the time but try to save for larger buildings.
Research is now worth four times what it used to for points. Keep building your academies and research as much as possible. Focus on the research that will be done the quickest as points are only added when the research is complete. Usually if you are continuing to build up academies the longer research will come faster therefore points will come faster.
Population should be growing as much as possible. If a town hall is almost full prioritize its expansion. If the citizens are not happy build up your tavern or Museum and supply them with CT's or Wine.
Military is essential but I use them to protect my points and not make my points. If you loose a battle then your points will go down. Make sure you have a good defensive military but don't consider them as a way to build score.
Trade ships still are a great way to earn points but with gold in demand trade ships are harder to buy. I have been keeping a set amount of money namely 1,000,000 gold on hand and if I have enough for the next ship I buy it. Every time you spend money on ships your points go up.
With those things in mind this is what must be done to grow quickly. First is expand. The more towns you have the more buildings you can build, them more population you have, the more research you can do and the more money you make. Be careful not to get caught with corruption. Build your GR's in your existing towns first. remember the small amount you receive from a new town is not as much if you have 20% corruption in a big town. Its always tempting to expand to fast, the key is to always plan for expansion. I save for one GR at a time and when they are ready I colonize.
Pillaging inactive players is also important. I know that this is much tougher now but anything we get from pillaging is something we don't have to mine ourselves. If you only get 500 wood, that still represents two hours for a mill so pillage in-actives as much as possible, and use the resources.
Now selling goods is going to be very important. If we have too much of one resource sell it and buy what you need. For example your army is large and you already have enough sulfur for your next GR sell extra sulfur and buy marble or glass or whatever you need.
